As technology continues to evolve in the 21st century, an unfortunate but true fact is that sometimes tech savvy individuals out there are using these products for evil rather than good. In fact, U.S. consumers lost nearly $20.7 billion due to cyber crimes in 2012 alone, with losses around the globe totaling out at nearly $110 billion between July 2011 and the end of July 2012, a report from security company Symantec (News - Alert) revealed.

In order to protect a corporate infrastructure from being infiltrated by these cyber terrorists, many proactive measures need to be taken including implementing a network packet broker. This next-generation product, that also goes by the name of fabric switches, traffic visibility switches, visibility layers, traffic visibility networking, intelligent taps, network monitoring switches and distributed traffic captures, powers port mapping for real-time adjustments of packet flow, can efficiently filter of packet data based on the specific characteristics and even performs packet slicing and de-duplication capabilities.

For organizations out there that have yet to implement this solution into their corporate infrastructure, they may want to attend an upcoming webinar titled, “Cyber Barbarians at the Gate! Strategies for 21st Century Network Security Fortifications” slated to take place on Wednesday, February 20, 2013 2:00 p.m. EDT. TMC’s (News - Alert) very own Senior Editor Peter Bernstein in conjunction with VSS Monitoring’s Director of Product Management Gordon Beith and Senior Product Manager Leena Merciline will be highlighting topics that surround the immediate need for organizations to put advanced network security procedures in place.

Some of these areas to be discussed include best practices in regards to how to leverage products to eliminate the chance of a cyber attack, what is needed to drive link-layer network visibility across all environments to near 100 percent, and key performance acceleration tools that can be attained for a cost-effective price.

Everyone from network administrators, network engineering CIO’s and chief information security officers to software and systems architects are strongly encouraged to attend this not-to-miss event that comes complete with a live Q&A segment and provides attendees with their very own copy of the “Network Packet Brokers for Dummies” E-book, free of charge.

This informative guide explores eight chapters which are separated into categories including: starting with the basics, understanding TAPs, understanding network packet brokers, use cases for network security, use cases for network performance, use cases for service providers, selecting the right NPB vendor, and last but definitely not least ten ways to lower your company’s TCO.

Being unaware to the vulnerabilities present in your enterprise could lead to disastrous effects that your firm may never be able to recover from. Rather than letting these attacks happen, stop them in their tracks right way. And do that, you may need some more information from VSS Monitoring (News - Alert).
