FortiWeb Web Application Firewalls Product Family Gets Next-gen OS

Fortinet (News - Alert), a provider of solution for high-performance network security, reportedly unveiled the next-generation operating system, the FortiWeb 5 OS, for its Web application firewall product family to fend off increasingly malicious application layer attacks with more advanced security upgrades.

According to the company, the FortiWeb Web Application Firewall provides specialized, layered application threat protection for medium and large enterprises, application service providers, and SaaS (News - Alert) providers. The solution can be deployed to safeguard Web-based applications and Internet-facing data from attack and data loss.

The newly released FortiWeb 5 OS is integrated with advanced features like the capability to sort out legitimate and malicious sources by analyzing the origin of Web application traffic and also the ability to check the authenticity of engine requests, scanners, crawlers and other threshold based tools. It blends the features of a broad Web application protection with Layer 7 load balancing and a built-in vulnerability scanner and does not demand add-on licenses for each system component.

Along with the next-generation OS, the company also unveiled the three new Web application firewall appliances: the FortiWeb-3000D, FortiWeb-3000DFsx and FortiWeb-4000D, for those who demand high performance Web application security.

Some of the other notable features of FortiWeb 5 are: Bot Dashboard, which delivers immediate visual snapshots of traffic hitting Web applications to security administrators so that they can use them to ascertain the legitimacy of bots; Real Browser Enforcement, for better validation of request and removal of automated DoS tools; and more.
