The network packet broker space is growing rapidly, primarily due to more and more companies continuously breaking into the industry. This offering is not only extremely reliable and robust, but it can help nearly any organization optimize current toolsets already in place, as well as protect themselves from a plethora of cyber attacks.

This week, it was revealed that although VSS Monitoring (News - Alert) has long had deep roots within the network packet broker space, it recently selected Afina, a Westcon Group (News - Alert) Company, as its newest channel partner in order to overcome key networking issues that both enterprises and mobile operators are continuing to encounter when looking to drive network performance and eliminate security threats.

According to the terms of the deal, Afina will now be reselling the complete VSS NPB family, a next-generation suite that encompasses the vBroker, vProtector, and vInspector products.

This will prove extremely advantageous to both companies, but VSS Monitoring particularly, which now will have a significant presence in Latin America and elsewhere, due to the fact that Afina has offices in Madrid, Barcelona, Portugal, the U.S., Mexico, Costa Rica, Colombia, Chile, Venezuela, Argentina, Peru and Morocco. VSS has continued to see a high rate of growth in network packet broker deployments in Latin American countries and strongly believes that the next big growth market for its portfolio lies within this region.

According to Rob Markovich (News - Alert), SVP of Sales and Marketing for VSS Monitoring, “Broadband and mobile IP networking is still growing in the U.S., Europe and Asia, but from a traffic perspective, the next big opportunities for the next three to five years will be in Latin America.”

In spite of the fact that Mexico and Brazil are the epicenters of emerging telecommunications opportunities in Latin America, there are many other growth opportunities throughout the region. Argentina and Chile are also at the top of the list of emerging markets there.

In other news, Marvell, a provider of network performance solutions, has launched a new high performance single-chip multicore gateway solution that comes complete with various data forwarding capabilities for passive optical networks (PON).

Not only does the solution serve as a low-power and cost competitive alternative ideal for original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and original design manufacturers (ODMs), but it gives users access to an intuitive two-layer PCB design optimized for voice, video and data applications.

“With Marvell's advanced packet processor design and breakthrough data forwarding optimization, we provide global manufacturers, telecom operators and ISPs with unmatched data forwarding capabilities at unparalleled speed further driving the next era of the digital lifestyle for consumers around the world," said Winston Chen, vice president for the Smart Home Business Unit at Marvell, in a statement.

Closing out the week, Fortinet (News - Alert) unveiled its enterprise firewalls within its FortiOS 5 operating system. Powering a variety of security configuration options like a high speed firewall, NGFW, ATP (News - Alert), Web Filtering and UTM, the suite gives firms access to real-time actions taking place within their corporate infrastructure separating out the activities based upon the application, user and device.
