Another major week came and went for network packet broker systems, and even a couple of major holidays around the world couldn't stem the flow of news. Whether your holiday of choice was Canada Day or the Fourth of July, it didn't slow down the news one bit. So with a weekend of varying lengths now at hand, it's worth taking a few minutes to run down some of the biggest events in the network packet broker sector with our Week in Review coverage.

First was a report that SanDisk (News - Alert) was putting some investment in Panzura. Panzura offers a platform that allows users to put flash memory to work storing data off-premise by using cloud systems, which makes it an excellent fit for SanDisk. SanDisk was part of Panzura's Series D funding round—joined by a host of other capital providers—and helped Panzura to raise fully $25 million to advance development of its cloud storage systems.

Fluke Networks (News - Alert) brought in the next piece of news, as Bealls, Inc—a major family-owned retail operation in large parts of the American South—turned to Fluke Networks' Visual TruView system for both the monitoring and troubleshooting of unified network and application performance issues. Bealls discovered that it was having serious issues with its over 100 custom, in-store and corporate applications, which in turn were causing regular network disruptions and bottom-line impact. With Fluke Networks, though, the company could turn around its ailing applications system and get back on track.

Then, we got a look at new high-power density products from Alpha and Omega Semiconductor, which launched a pair of new PairFET devices. The new PairFet devices, able to run both high-side and low-side integrated MOSFETs, The company's flagship offering, the AON5924, offers up 30A of output current from just one DFN 5x6 power package, and can replace fully two DFN 5x6 MOSFETs. That offers up a lot of extra space, and new options besides, for notebook and desktop PC makers, graphic cards, servers and several others from there.

Riverbed (News - Alert) Technology had the next big news item with its naming to a “Value Leader” position by Enterprise Management Associates in its Radar Report for Application-Aware (News - Alert) Network Performance Management report for the first quarter of 2013. Riverbed received the award on the strength of its various core capabilities, which was found to be among the best in the entire sector. Thanks to its Cascade and OPNET product lines, the company could offer a single solution to handle monitoring, troubleshooting, and even repair of both application and network performance issues.

Finally, we had a new report from NETGEAR, who announced a new line of ProSAFE Single-Band Wireless-N Access Point (News - Alert) systems, this time with the small and medium-sized business specifically in mind. The new ProSAFE access points allow small and medium-sized businesses to better secure wireless networks while at the same time offering better performance for the connections. With a ProSAFE, users can create a stand-alone configuration of an 802.11n wireless setup, which is great for environments where users are few in number but the need for good connections and high-speed response is high.

It was clearly a big week in network packet broker systems, and even a holiday couldn't slow it down. With plenty going on, our global online community was kept quite busy bringing in all the latest news, so be sure to come back next week for all the latest news in the sector, and every weekend for our Week in Review!
