Liquid Telecom, the African wholesale of fiber-optic and satellite-network is going to leverage Arbor Networks’ (News - Alert) advanced security platform to ensure that its extensive fiber optic network is always secure and running.
A division of telecom giant Econet Wireless Liquid Telecom was founded by Zimbabwean businessman Strive Masiyiwa and currently focuses on expanding its Pan-African presence. The expansion is aimed at brining high speed Internet connection to the African regions that are lacking in reliable, high-speed access.
Liquid Telecom delivers high speed Internet connectivity through its expansive fiber network that is connected to five main subsea cable systems including WACS, EASSY, SEACOM (News - Alert), SAT3 and TEAM in Africa. The current investment is going to help the company develop and operate a “high-quality” Pan-African fiber network.
The Zimbabwe-based telecom company is going to leverage US-based Arbor Network’s comprehensive DDoS Detection & Analysis Peakflow SP platform to detect network availability threats to its fast, expanding network. Arbor’s platform will also provide DDoS (distributed denial-of-service) protection to Liquid Telecom’s network and enable the company to gain better traffic visibility.
Arbor Networks said its advanced network management and security platform are designed to enable network operators to view running applications and to profile their behavior, as well as detect and report on application-traffic violations. The platform also supports a real-time reporting feature for the complete visibility of critical network traffic, services and applications. This real time viewing and reporting capability can proactively help protect against DDoS attacks.
“Ensuring that our network and services are running smoothly and securely is a top priority for us. For that reason, we selected Arbor Networks for traffic visibility and DDoS (distributed denial-of-service) protection. Their solutions are deployed globally by the world’s most demanding network operators,” Roberts noted in a statement.
Colin Doherty, president of Arbor Networks, said that Arbor’s solutions will ensure that Liquid Telecom’s comprehensive range of wholesale international carrier services are always available for its Pan-African clientele.
“By deploying (the) Peakflow SP (platform), Liquid Telecom is able to leverage a robust platform that delivers comprehensive network insight and intelligence, together with the ability to mitigate availability threats like DDoS,” said Doherty in a statement.
Last month Arbor Networks announced that Bezeq International (News - Alert) Ltd., Israel's leading Internet and international telecommunications provider, has selected Arbor's Pravail Availability Protection System (APS) and Peakflow SP platform to protect their network and provide managed services to their customers against a top threat to availability, distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks. Bezeq International is also a member of the Arbor Networks Cloud Signaling(TM) Coalition.
