Xilinx’s (News - Alert) 7 Series GTH transceiver has tested successfully for 10GBASE-KR LogiCORE IP at the University of New Hampshire InterOperability Laboratory.

The UNH-IO laboratory specializes in the testing of data networking technologies. The success of the test validates that the transceivers are fully compatible with UNH-IOL’s (News - Alert) receiver and transmitter electrical and protocol compliance requirements for backplane applications.

Raj Seelam, director of solutions marketing at Xilinx said, “Passing these compliance tests is a significant milestone in the development of our 10GBASE-KR 10-Gigabit serial interface, which is part of our expanding portfolio for addressing the need for service providers to deliver more bandwidth-intensive services intelligently to minimize both capital expenditures and operational expenses.”

“We worked closely with UNH-IOL in this effort, providing equipment, boards and experts who worked side-by-side with the UNH-IOL testing teams to achieve this milestone,” Seelam added.

OEMs can now develop optimized network and data center solutions using 10 Gigabit or 40 Gigabit backplanes that conform to the IEEE (News - Alert) Std 802.3. They can leverage Xilinx’s 10GBASE-KR LogiCORE IP and enable 40GBASE-KR4 LogiCORE IP on Virtex-7 XT and HT devices with GTH transceivers, said company officials.

The compliance testing process involved several devices and boards, including the Virtex-7 FPGA VC7215 board that features the XC7VX690T-3FFG1927E device. The 10GBASE-KR LogiCORE IP is available with the Vivado design suite.

Curtis Donahue, Manager for the UNH-IOL Backplane Ethernet Consortium said, “We are pleased that Xilinx has passed 10GBASE-KR conformance testing with its 10GBASE-KR solution as the UNH-IOL collaborates with our members to help them bring compliant designs into the market as fast as possible. Xilinx’s commitment to conformance and interoperability testing is vital to the continued success of the IEEE 802.3 10GBASE-KR standard.”

Recently MoSys announced that it had joined the Xilinx Alliance Program, with its high-performance, high-access rate bandwidth engine family of integrated circuits (ICs), which are intended for 100G and beyond networking systems that utilize Xilinx FPGAs.
