Net Optics (News - Alert), Inc. recently announced that it has enhanced its Flex Tap product line with new capabilities, which will provide operators with increased visibility into their networks.

In a statement, Lee House, Net Optics VP of products said, "While it is critical for operators to maintain total visibility to manage their networks, applications and services, if that data access actually introduces error, the cure can be worse than the disease. But with a breakthrough product like the Flex Tap, operators can have total visibility into their modern networks while ensuring highly reliable transport."

The Flex Tap address the issues of system-wide signal loss caused by increasing network volumes and migration of optical networks to  10G, 40G, and 100G. The reason why signal loss happen is because even with a slight increase in optical network speeds, the smallest imperfections in optical couplers, cable, or access Taps can lead to modal distortion, which can make bit error rates unacceptable. The Flex Tap's architecture offers network operators the opportunity to deliver increased visibility over these high-speed networks without the worry of injecting errors. Furthermore, the Flex Tap solution can be deployed with any multimode transceiver, which means signal loss that arises from data errors in high-speed networks can be eliminated.

Some of the capabilities featured in the upgraded Flex Tap solution include: substantial reduction in error rates and ability to deliver high signal-to-noise ratios, which ensure clarity and fulfillment of service level agreements; capability to pass a wider light spectrum without any impact to quality of sound; no need for power or an IP address for 24/7 monitoring; and complete compatibility with all leading manufacturers' monitoring devices.

The Flex Tap makes it possible for any connected monitoring device to provide complete visibility of full duplex traffic and to quickly identify Layer 1 and Layer 2 errors. The Flex Tap solution can fit up to 24 taps in a 1U panel, and can support 1G, 10G, 40G and 100G implementations.
