As improved solutions and tools emerged this past week, the Network Packet Broker sector continued to advance protection schemes for small and big businesses (SMBs). Hence, there were acquisitions to bring on board network security expertise, while other vendors introduced threat-monitoring solutions.

With the data protection market booming, disk-based data protection company FalconStor Software started shipping its data protection solutions, the FalconStor (News - Alert) Continuous Data Protector (CDP) v7.5 and FalconStor Network Storage Server (NSS) v7.5. As reported, the solutions are fitted with RecoverTrac 2.7 disaster recovery (DR) automation technology and deliver improved features of intelligently moving, storing, and protecting data without burdening production resources. Implementing an open, heterogeneous architecture, the new version 7.5 of FalconStor NSS and FalconStor CDP and version 2.7 of the RecoverTrac tool continue to enhance and improve technologies to bring mobility, intelligence, and integration to the data center, says a TMCnet report.

Similarly, anti-malware solutions provider Bitdefender launched its GravityZone-in-a-Box, a security management console. The TMCnet report indicates that the GravityZone-in-a-Box (News - Alert) was designed for small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) that require security solutions for virtual, physical and mobile environments from a consolidated management platform. In short, it aims to help organizations secure and manage their borderless network environment. The solution offers SMBs a variety of management, monitoring and reporting tools.

According to Bitdefender, GravityZone-in-a-Box is tailored from start to finish for SMBs that can easily and quickly deploy it to free up resources for core activities. It secures up to 250 endpoints and allows companies to easily manage security for virtual desktops and servers, as well as physical and mobile endpoints.

In other news, Trend Micro acquired Taiwan-based advanced network security solutions provider Broadweb. A report indicates that Broadweb’s innovative deep packet inspection will quickly strengthen Trend’s Custom Defense Solution. Consequently, Trend intends to utilize Broadweb to better protect networks against targeted and advanced threats in the modern cybercrime landscape. As per the report, Broadweb's technology has been validated independently by NSS Labs. It has ICSA Labs IPS Certification. The financial terms of the deal were not reported.

To detect targeted attacks and unknown malware, Websense introduced a new TRITON RiskVision monitoring solution that uses advanced data theft detection, multi-layer sandboxing and real-time global analysis. According to the report, TRITON RiskVision outperforms other technologies by providing immediate visibility into the cyber threat landscape and actionable data to facilitate swift network security reinforcement.

Lastly, to bring broadcast quality programming to Vermont, Vermont Access Network (VAN) member stations deployed TelVue Corp. (News - Alert)’s TelVue Connect Platform, which is a cloud-based solution for content ingestion, scheduling and automation for one’s authorized contributors. The platform makes it easy to manage and aggregate programming for local origination channels, leased access channels, PEG channels, shared channels, any channel with multiple external contributors, complete edge broadcast networks, and VOD services. As reported, VAN connects over 26 community media centers that together operate more than 40 local cable channels across Vermont.
