With network security concerns rising, network packet brokers are being adopted on a larger scale. But, selecting the right configuration for your network may not be that simple. To make selection process easy for everyone, VSS Monitoring (News - Alert) has written a book titled “Network Packet Brokers for Dummies.” This past week, based on the discussion in this book, contributing editor Susan J. Campbell concisely presented the pros and cons of the three common types of network packet broker interconnection designs available. While the contributing editor’s column quickly brings you up to-date with different types of network packet brokers in the market, the reporter recommends reading the book completely.


Also, this past week in the network packet broker space, threat management solutions provider

NetCitadel integrated its threat management platform with FireEye’s threat protection platform. In addition, NetCitadel announced joining the FireEye (News - Alert) fuel partner program. The partners said that the integrated solutions will enable their mutual customers to effectively respond to threats.

The TMCnet report suggests that this integration will empower incident response teams to protect their networks optimally by leveraging the security analysis and intelligence capabilities. Additionally, the report indicates that it will also enable security analysts and incident response teams can verify, prioritize, and contain threats rapidly.

In other news, Ipswitch (News - Alert) Network Management Division released a new version of WhatsUp Gold- WhatsUp Gold 16.2. As reported, an upgrade to the company’s flagship network monitoring and management product provides extended network monitoring capabilities to companies and government organizations across the world.  The report brings comments from Optim Healthcare’s senior systems administrator Matt Cline, who said, “The latest version of WhatsUp Gold will give me more visibility into my network and improve wireless network management through its powerful unified dashboard.”

As per the report, WhatsUp Gold 16.2 is also designed to address workplace challenges related to bring your own device (BYOD) and problems associated with an increase in demand of bandwidth. Other benefits highlighted include monitoring for networks, systems, applications and event logging.

Speaking of partnership, Bradford Networks (News - Alert), a provider of secure network access for BYOD,   entered into a strategic distribution partnership with IT solutions provider Virtual Graffiti. As per the TMCnet report, Virtual Graffiti will now be able to offer Bradford Networks' Network Access Control (NAC) solution, Network Sentry, to its worldwide customer base. Network Sentry delivers complete visibility and control of all users and devices on the network, enhancing productivity while mitigating risk.

Lastly, new research by Enterprise Management Associates on network monitoring switches  highlights the role of this technology in optimizing networking and security monitoring architectures and practices.
