Network Packet Broker Week in Review

Network Packet Broker technology is poised to do for networks what virtualization did for servers. Here are some of the stories we’ve been following this week.

Arcipelago International, an Indonesian hospitality management company, announced that it would be using Cisco (News - Alert) cloud networking solutions to expand its wireless and wired networks supporting more than 40,000 users

“Indonesia’s economic success is closely tied to the hospitality industry and according to research by HVS Global Hospitality Service, the number of tourists travelling Indonesia is expected to reach 400 million in 2023, which will require 800 new hotels and will create 200,000 new jobs. We’re excited to see Archipelago International embrace the digital future, as Cisco predicts there will be 593 million networked devices in Indonesia by 2017 (2.3 per capita),” Cisco managing director for Indonesia Stuart Hendry said.

Even the companies offering NPD technology need a little help from time to time. VSS Monitoring has enlisted Maxta’s MxSP VM storage platform to improve its storage performance.

“The Maxta Storage Platform meets the storage needs of even the most demanding test-and-development environments by reducing complexity and cost while improving productivity and time to market. By providing VSS Monitoring (News - Alert) with the ability to meet its objectives while staying within budget, we were able to help them improve performance and simplify IT,” Maxta CEO Yoram Novick said.

Network administrators are locked in a race with hackers to defend their networks from DDoS (Distributed Denial of Service) attacks. Nominium’s Vantio CacheServe 5.4 can help by preventing loophole in the DNS system from amplifying these attacks.

“The new precision policies that have been applied to Vantio CacheServe and Vantio ThreatAvert provide the only way to stop the latest DNS amplification attacks using the DNS itself, without blocking legitimate traffic.  Only a month ago we launched Vantio ThreatAvert, which combines precision policies with the unique capability of Nominum (News - Alert)'s GIX platform to detect attacks days, or even hours, before alternative solutions,” Nominium vice president of product management Craig Sprosts said.

We can only scratch the surface with all of the exciting news this week. We wish you a very happy holiday season and hope you keep following us through 2014 for the latest network packet broker news.
