While the majority of the world is glued to the Sochi Winter Olympics, let’s take a tech break and see what happened in the network packet broker headlines for this week.
A special report this week highlight’s some information from the folks at Radware (News - Alert) who, in its 2013 Global Application and Network Security Report, said that DDoS attackers are getting smarter.
According to the news item, the report discusses how “attacks like these will continue to cause problems through this year, especially as attackers start using more sophisticated methods of packet delivery.”
“Our report indicates that DoS/DDoS attacks have increasingly become the tool of choice for cyber-hacktivist groups and will continue to wreak havoc on organizations. Eighty-seven percent of our respondents encountered service level issues from this style of attack. The negative impact of a service outage is already understood, but even small instances of service degradation can have harmful, lasting effects on an organization's brand image, customer satisfaction, and ultimately its bottom line.”

In other news, Corero Network Security announced the launch of Corero SmartWall Threat Defense System (TDS) for cloud, hosting and Internet service providers.
Like the aforementioned report from Radware, Corero recognizes the rise of DDoS attacks, and so its SmartWall TDS delivers threat defense services in rapidly scalable deployments for higher performance, greater connectivity and broader functionality.
Read what officials at Corero have to say about the latest of its solutions and how it will help companies stay protected against DDoS attacks.
A recent webinar discussed why traditional security approaches just aren’t good enough as a defense with today’s network offerings. In a nutshell, managers need to understand the top four areas where threats primarily exist: malware, DDOS, BYOD and cloud and web app security.
To bring companies in the present with the most up-to-date security measures, there’s vProtector from VSS Monitoring (News - Alert), which bridges the gap between the requirements that continue to evolve in network security and existing operations.
