The new OpenFlow compliant Edge Acceleration Platform (EAP) from One Convergence will now offer user extensions through custom flow actions. The platform also effectively scales, accelerates and offloads Open vSwitch.
Overlay networking, based on L2oL3 tunnelling for connecting Open vSwitches to support Network Virtualization, can enhance provisioning and utilization and offers isolation for multi-tenancy within data centers.
The EAP offering from One Convergence (News - Alert) enables network appliances and servers to optimize on wire speed performance and frees up host processors. The platform also extends edge switching for select application flow actions.
"The advanced hardware acceleration engines and optimal performance of Freescale's (News - Alert) eight-core QorIQ P4080 SoC are ideal for delivering application-specific processing for low latency 10G Ethernet datacenter networking,” said Bernd Lienhard, Vice President and General Manager of Freescale's Networking Processor (News - Alert) Division. “One Convergence has developed a compelling solution for flow-based server acceleration which intelligently leverages the Freescale processor's ability to handle large flow tables and efficiently steer packets to host VMs for optimal performance."
EAP first offering is a solution which functions over the QorIQ P4080-based Smart IO PCIe adapter platform from FreeScale. The initial solution can support L2oL3 tunneling such as VXLAN, NVGRE in addition to other protocols and will support full offload of Open vSwitch to ensure OpenFlow-based SDN.
"Interface Masters (News - Alert) is pleased to team up with One Convergence and Freescale on the Edge Acceleration Platform solution which is a unique solution addressing the Software-Defined Networking market,” said Udi Yuhjtman, President of Interface Masters. “As virtualization becomes more pervasive within networking, the challenge of tapping and monitoring network traffic becomes increasingly more difficult and complex. The Open vSwitch and OpenFlow offload provide a seamless solution to address data monitoring in the virtual environment, providing full visibility and access to network information while ensuring zero penalty is incurred."
Some of the key features of the OpenFlow compliant EAP solution inlcude Open vSwitch Offload / Acceleration; compliance with OpenFlow Protocol; Application Specific Flow Actions; enhanced Performance Flow Processing; IPSec, DPI & Custom Processing acceleration; and L2oL3 Tunneling for VXLAN, NVGRE protocols.
