With any network connection, network monitoring is essential to keep systems stable and going around the clock without interruption. Unfortunately for many companies, network monitoring can be a flawed process if the right monitoring tools aren’t used.
Problems can arise and turn critical before troubleshooting can be implemented, and for many businesses whose mission-critical processes rely 100 percent on their networks, this can spell disaster.
Network monitoring should be able to detect malicious software, running processes, and be able to check the state of any device and connection, but not all network monitoring solutions are equal. Network monitoring should be done at the packet level, so says WildPackets (News - Alert), a provider of network, application performance, and protocol analysis, VoIP monitoring, and troubleshooting solutions.
The company most recently released its latest version of the OmniPeek Network Analyzer which is used for network troubleshooting and protocol analysis. The OmniPeek network analyzer performs deep packet inspection, network forensics, troubleshooting, and packet and protocol analysis of wired and wireless networks. What this means is IT staff can better recognize and troubleshoot applications, as well as rapidly detect mis-configurations and anomalies.
With integrated reconstruction of common applications, including browsing, e-mail, IM and VoIP, WildPackets offers a solution that spans network monitoring, network troubleshooting, network planning, and regulatory compliance.
“Today, everyone is doing network analysis and network monitoring. You need to do that on these big networks, anything from a small company to a large company,” said Jay Botelho, director of product management at WildPackets. “But today people are using technologies that don’t give them all the data they need.”
Listen to what Botelho has to say about packet-based analysis, why it’s important in network monitoring and how monitoring more efficiently can save networks from a disaster in the video above.
