BRIEF: Boys & Girls Club building clubhouse

ZEBULON, Mar 21, 2011 (The News & Observer - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- The Zebulon Boys & Girls Club will break ground today on a 15,600-square-foot clubhouse building and an outdoor activity area on Shepard School Road.

When completed in 2012, the new Zebulon Club will have room to serve 1,000 members. The club now serves 420 at a 3,600-square-foot mobile unit at Zebulon Middle School.

The Kitahata family donated land for the club in 2001. The project got a boost from a $550,000 Community Development Block Grant from Wake County and pledges of support from several businesses and individuals, said Ralph Capps, president/CEO of the Boys & Girls Clubs.

The Zebulon Club is one of seven Boys & Girls Clubs in Wake County.

The Wake clubs serve more than 4,200 children a year, providing educational support and programs in citizenship and leadership development, life skills, the arts, sports, fitness and recreation.
