Baidu to transfer Youa's shopping business service

BEIJING, Mar 31, 2011 (Xinhua via COMTEX) -- ?Baidu.com, Inc. (BIDU.Nasdaq), the leading Chinese language Internet search provider, announced on Thursday that it has started to adjust the business scope of its C2C site, Youa.com.

According to the announcement, Baidu began on Thursday to transfer the shopping platforms to its partners, including rakuten.com.cn and yaodian100.com, and expects to finish the adjustment in one month.

Youa.com would continue to provide services on its life information platform, and the company is developing new platforms Baidu, the world's leading Chinese search engine provider, officially launched its consumer-to-consumer (C2C) e-commerce and auction site called Youa.com on October 28, 2008, intending to compete with the current C2C marketplace leader, Alibaba's Taoboa.com.

Through Baidu Youa, merchants can sell their products and services at Baidu-registered stores. The customers, driven to these stores primarily through Baidu's market leading search engine, will be able to use a Baidu-branded online payment system, BaiFuBao, to make purchases.

However, Taoboa.com has held the biggest market shares tightly in recent years and the launch of Baidu's C2C site, Youa.com, has cast little impact on Taoboa.com. (Edited by Gaoyuan, [email protected])
