ACM CEO John White Congratulates Students on Invitation to White House Science(Targeted News Service Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) NEW YORK, Feb. 7 -- The Association for Computing Machinery issued the following news release: Below is a statement from John White, ACM Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer: "ACM proudly congratulates high school senior Noor Muhyi, a winner of the NCWIT Award for Aspirations in Computing, 10-year-old Hannah Wyman, winner of Microsoft's U.S. Kodu Cup, and all the innovative students to be recognized by President Obama at the White House Science Fair today, February 7, 2012. Muhyi won the Aspirations in Computing award for inventing multiple electronic devices to aid special-education students in learning math concepts. Wyman's triumph in the Microsoft competition centered on creating a video game using Kodu, a new visual programming language, in which players solve puzzles to help save the environment. These young women provide a shining example of achievement for their peers. "ACM has long partnered with both NCWIT and Microsoft to inspire young people, especially girls, to pursue careers in the field of computing, and we applaud President Obama's efforts to continue inspiring our nation's youth to excel in the STEM fields, including computing. Few careers rival computer science in providing opportunities to develop innovative solutions to challenging issues facing the global economy, and it's vitally important that we continue to advocate for strong computer science education programs to ensure that the nation has the skilled workforce it needs to develop solutions.
