Election Protection to Launch Smartphone Application; Dynamic New App Will Be Crucial Tool to Educate and Empower Voters in 2012(Targeted News Service Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) WASHINGTON, Aug. 8 -- The Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights Under Law issued the following news release: On Thursday, August 9, 2012, at 12 p.m. EDT, national voting rights leaders with will hold a press conference call and webinar to officially launch Election Protection's new smartphone application. In an effort to meet the needs of the digital age and to ensure that voters have a wide range of resources and tools that will enable them to fully participate in our democracy, the Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights Under Law, National Association of Latino Appointed and Elected Officials Education Fund, New Organizing Institute Education Fund, Rock the Vote and Verified Voting Foundation joined forces on a Smartphone application to educate and empower voters across the country, especially as they deal with the heightened confusion spawned by vote suppression legislation that has been debated and passed state legislatures across the country since the 2010 elections. Available for free on all smartphones, the application will allow voters to: Verify their registration status Lookup their polling place Verify their voting system Use the app to empower their friends and family Access a FAQ and key dates for their state Fill out a voter registration form Contact Election Protection Register for the webinar at https://www1.gotomeeting.com/register/674270017.
