Cuba's Despaigne, Mexico's Espinoza take taekwondo bronze

London, Aug 11, 2012 (EFE via COMTEX) -- Cuban Olympic taekwondo athlete Robelis Despaigne took bronze in the men's heavyweight division (+80 kg) here Saturday when his opponent, Mali's Daba Modibo Keita, withdrew with an injury.

Olympic officials announced that Keita had suffered an injury and would not be able to compete in one of Saturday's two bronze-medal matches at the ExCeL London arena.

The Cuban lost to Gabon's Anthony Obame - the eventual silver medalist - in the quarterfinals but qualified for the bronze-medal match after handily defeating Samoa's Kaino Thomsen-Fuataga 14-2.

Mexico's Maria Espinoza, meanwhile, won bronze with a 4-2 victory Saturday over Cuba's Glenhis Hernandez in the women's heavyweight (+67 kg) division. EFE fc/mc
