MEDIA ADVISORY - ACTRA Toronto Launches Respect the Artist Campaign at Labour Day Parade

TORONTO, Aug. 30, 2012, 2012 (Canada NewsWire via COMTEX) -- ACTRA Toronto is launching its Respect the Artist campaign at the Labour Day Parade, September 3, 2012 in Toronto.

Cultural workers will march in solidarity with all working people at the parade, demonstrating that "the creative class is working class." The campaign will continue into the fall as Peter Tabuns introduces legislation at Queen's Park to secure for our members and all Ontario artists the basic protections envisioned in UNESCO's 1980 Status of the Artist Recommendation. The campaign will continue as ACTRA seeks fair and reasonable contract terms for all 22,000 ACTRA members in Canada at the bargaining table later this fall.
