BRIEF: Man on life support after being hit by vehicle in Oakdale


OAKDALE, Nov 05, 2012 (The Modesto Bee - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- A 47-year-old Oakdale man was on life support Sunday night after being struck by a vehicle on Highway 120, authorities said.

The man was walking across the highway at Sixth Street when he was struck by the vehicle heading west at about 8:30 p.m., according to acting Lt. Mike Nixon of the Oakdale Police Department.

He said the man, who was knocked about 40 feet from the site of the impact, was airlifted to Doctors Medical Center in Modesto. He was suffering from severe injuries to his head and other parts of his body.

The driver of the vehicle, which was traveling about 35 mph, stopped and cooperated with police, Nixon said.

There were no further details about the accident, specifically which direction the man was crossing. The busy area includes at least one fast food restaurant and a convenience store.



Preliminary reports show that drugs or alcohol did not play a role in the accident.
