Glasgow doctor works to make medical e-visits easierGLASGOW, Dec 08, 2012 (Glasgow Daily Times - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- A Glasgow family physician is hoping to revolutionize the future of the medical field by taking electronic medical visits to a new level. Dr. William "Chuck" Thornbury, CEO and medical director of Medical Associates of Southern Kentucky, has spent years studying the feasibility of using electronic doctor visits as a new, long-term facet of American healthcare. Believing that electronic visits with a personal physician can be used to strengthen patient-doctor relationships and free up space in waiting rooms, Thornbury designed Me-Visit, an e-visit mobile app that allows a patient to visit his or her own doctor through a smartphone or computer. "The patient gets care no matter where they are," Thornbury said. Electronic doctor visits are not new, Thornbury explained. Patients have had access to different types of e-visits for years, often something that only requires a patient to get on the Internet and consult with a healthcare provider they've never met, and may not even be sure the person providing care is a professional. Me-Visit is the first e-visit program offered on mobile phones, Thornbury said, and it takes away the risk of a patient getting unknown medical advice online, because Me-Visit requires each new patient to be registered with a physician within the network. In the Glasgow area code of 42141, the Me-Visit website shows that four physician practices are available for e-visits. Patients of those four practices are able to register for e-visits.
