Radio Shack in Pompano Beach robbed again
Jan 01, 2013 (Sun Sentinel - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) --
A group of masked gunmen robbed a Radio Shack in Pompano Beach, apparently targeting only the electronics store's supply of iPhones and associated gear.
It was the second time this year the same store was robbed, primarily for the pricey smartphones.
Deputies with the Broward Sheriff's Office were dispatched shortly before 6 p.m. Sunday to the store located at 167 South Pompano Parkway in Pompano Beach.
Witnesses told investigators that a group of armed men wearing ski masks walked inside and ordered employees and a few customers into a back room, said agency spokeswoman Keyla Concepcion.
The robbers then instructed employees to hand over numerous boxes of iPhones before fleeing the area. Nobody was hurt during the incident.
The same Pompano Beach store was robbed in August. In that case, a dreadlocked robber pretended to be shopping around before pointing a gun at an employee. The man then told the employee to open the rear door to let in his two accomplices.
He and the other two robbers loaded boxes of smartphones and other merchandise from the stockroom onto their rental van in the rear parking lot, then drove away from the business, the Broward Sheriff's Office said. The employee, the only one in the store at the time, was unhurt.
Investigators released a surveillance video of the August robbery, but a video for the latest incident was not immediately available.
It is unclear if both incidents were committed by the same group of robbers.
Employees at the store declined to comment on Monday.
Authorities ask anyone with information about the robbery to call Broward Crime Stoppers, anonymously, at 954-493-8477.
