Conway woman charged in New Year's Eve robbery

Jan 02, 2013 (The Sun News (Myrtle Beach - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- A Conway woman was charged with armed robbery and police are searching for three men in connection with two men being forced to stop in the roadway and robbed at gunpoint of cash and cell phones, according to an Horry County police report.

Courtney Sue Braddock, 32, was booked into J. Reuben Long Detention Center at 8:13 p.m. Dec. 31 on a charge of armed robbery in connection with the incident that happened about 5:30 a.m. that day, according to authorities.

Braddock was being held at the jail pending a bond hearing.

The victims, a 32-year-old man and 26-year-old man, told police they were driving along West Homewood Road when they were forced to pull into a field by some people who were blocking the roadway, according to the report. The victims said three men and Braddock came up to each side of the vehicle and robbed them.

The driver told police he was choked by one of the men and had a gun held to the back of his head while the passenger was pulled from the vehicle and had a gun held to his back, according to the report. The victims said Braddock collected their wallets and cell phones and they fought with the male suspects, who tried to take their watches and jewelry.

Soon after the police took the report, they were called by younger victim, who said his friend received a text message from someone stating he had purchased the victim's cell phone and his mother was mad so he would sell the phone back to the victim.

The victim agreed to meet with the man and officers took him into custody in a grocery store parking lot to ask how he obtained the cell phone, according to the report. That man told police he purchased the phone from Braddock for $20.

Police found Braddock and took her into custody and learned she was with the other men during the incident, according to the report. Braddock told officers she took the cell phones, but did not have the cash.

Officers found the second phone in her vehicle along with a pellet handgun, according to the report. Officers are searching for the men suspected in the robbery.
