BRIEF: OPD: New Mexico man stabs family member

Odessa police say a 30-year-old New Mexico man lured the mother of his child to the parking lot of a Mexican restaurant and stabbed her repeatedly with a knife.
Joshua Garcia Chavarria was charged with aggravated assault. The jail did not yet list him as an inmate, and police did not immediately provide his hometown or address.
The 28-year-old woman he is accused of stabbing was undergoing surgery early afternoon at Medical Center Hospital for unspecified injuries she suffered in the attack, according to a release from the Odessa Police Department. Police said the status of her and Chavarria's relationship was not immediately clear.
The stabbing happened around 12:40 p.m., the release stated, after Chavarria called the woman and asked her to meet him in the parking lot of La Esperanza Restaurant, 1511 N. West County Road. The release stated the pair were standing beside the woman's vehicle when Chavarria began stabbing her.
A witness called police, and Chavarria remained on scene until police arrived, the release stated. Officers took him into custody without incident.
