BRIEF: MID board close to naming interim manager
MODESTO, Jan 05, 2013 (The Modesto Bee - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) --
Modesto Irrigation District board members interviewed candidates for the position of interim general manager in closed session Friday. Board members are expected to resume the closed-session interviews Tuesday.
The board is expected to name an interim general manager later next week.
The board is interviewing five internal candidates for the position. MID officials declined to release the candidates' names.
General Manager Allen Short retired Dec. 31 after 19 years as MID's top administrator.
The interim general manager is expected to serve until after the November election, which could result in as many as three new members on the five-member board.
The new board is expected to pick a permanent general manager.
The MID provides water to about 3,100 agricultural customers, who irrigate nearly 60,000 acres of almonds, walnuts, peaches and other crops.
The utility provides electric power to more than 113,000 customers and drinking water to residents and businesses in the Modesto area.
