Man shot during home invasion
JOHNSTOWN, Jan 05, 2013 (The Tribune-Democrat - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) --
Investigators continue their search for two men who allegedly shot a man in the head Thursday inside his Richland Township home.
Richland police said two black men entered a home in the 1200 block of Lydia Street at 8:06 p.m. and shot a 38-year-old man at least one time in the head with a handgun.
The victim was taken by East Hills Ambulance to Memorial Medical Center in Johnstown. He is in the intensive care unit, Richland police Chief Michael Burgan said.
His name was not available.
"This wasn't a random home invasion robbery," Burgan said. "We believe this was a targeted type of attack."
He would not say if the two men forced their way into the home or were invited inside.
"We're trying to track down some leads that we have," Burgan said.
Police interviewed residents on the street, located off of Scalp Avenue near Richland Cemetery.
Investigators are reviewing surveillance videos from businesses in the area to help them identify the suspects and find a motive for the shooting.
Lydia Street has just six houses, some still adorned with Christmas decorations, with Christmas trees in the windows.
Police are trying to determine if anything was taken from the home where the victim lived, police Detective Kevin Gaudlip said.
Police received the call for the incident at 8:48 p.m.
It originally was reported as an unconscious person, Burgan said.
"As dispatchers gathered more information it was upgraded to a shooting," he said.
The Cambria County district attorney's office and FBI Safe Streets Task Force have joined the investigation.
