School's smartphone app to aid forgetful pupils [Western Mail (Wales)]

(Western Mail (Wales) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) A PRIMARY school in South Wales has become one of the first to roll out a mobile app to inform parents of important announcements. Bridgend school Llangewydd Juniors is to roll out one of the first smartphone apps in Wales that lets parents and carers know important details that children forget to pass on.

The school hopes that it will avoid cases where letters disappear down the backs of sofas, get buried in their child's schoolbags and vanish.

Information including appointments for parent's evenings, announcements and reminders for school trips and for children to bring their gym kit will be included on the app, which was designed by teacher Andrew Smith.

The school believes it to be only the second to come up with the app - with the first at a Swansea primary school.

He said: "We've had a lot of positive feedback from parents saying that it's a fantastic way for pupils to learn how to use the technology - and in some cases to teach their parents how to use it." (c) 2013 ProQuest Information and Learning Company; All Rights Reserved.
