Deployment of Cellcom's Broadband Fiber Cable Successful

(AllAfrica Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Cellcom's Corporate Communications Strategist, Dr. Kimmie Weeks, has revealed that the Company has successfully connected its 4G network to the new ACE fiber cable and that the trial period proved to be an immense success. Dr. Weeks says that on January 1, 2013, thousands of Cellcom subscribers, who were using the Company's 4G network, experienced the power and speed of the fiber cable for a full day without incurring any charges.

Earlier this week, Cellcom's CEO, Mr. Avishai Marziano, announced that the Company was the first in Liberia to connect and prepare for a public trial of its mobile network to the new fiber cable. In remarks at the Company's headquarters last Monday, Mr. Marziano said: "We are delighted with this feat achieved by our organization especially at this time. Cellcom continues to prove itself as an innovative technology market leader because have again demonstrated this latest position as we go live with the ACE fiber optic cable." Mr. Marziano added: "Earlier this year, Cellcom launched the 4G network which the Company announced was the 'last mile' towards the high-speed fiber optic network." Mr. Marziano elaborated that the marriage of Cellcom's 4G network to the fiber optic cable meant that customers could now enjoy low latency connectivity. "Our 4G network is the only super-fast network in Liberia. Now that we have connected it to the fiber optic cable, it will be 100 times faster compared to any other network in Liberia." During the January 1st trial period, thousands of Cellcom users connected to the 4G network, which was free of charge, and experienced what the CEO referred to as "unparalleled and unsurpassable speeds." Kimmie Weeks said that data reports from the Cellcom's servers showed that even with a densely populated network, customers enjoyed speeds of over 150Mbps. "The main advantage customers will feel with our 4G network, now connected to the fiber optic submarine cable, is lower latency - this means that web pages will load faster, streaming will work better and buffer faster, downloads will reach higher speeds and, in general, the browsing experience will be better and faster," Dr. Weeks explained.

Cellcom's CEO says that now that its test has concluded, the Company is set to fully launch the 4G full service on Jan. 18, 2013 for commercial use in line with ACE's ready for commercial service date.
