BRIEF: Arrest made in Pompano Beach robbery of cell phones

Jan 08, 2013 (Sun Sentinel - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- One man has been arrested in connection to the theft of about $25,000 worth of cellphones and accessories that occured during an armed robbery at an AT&T store in Pompano Beach.

Clinton Johnson, 21, was arrested Sunday and charged with robbery with a firearm, kidnapping and for violating probation. Authorities say he was one of three men who robbed the store located at the 1200 block of South Federal Highway on November 20.

The men first walked into the store and pretended to be customers, including sitting in stools as they waited for a store employee to finish talking on the phone.

A gunman then suddenly brandished a weapon and placed it on the female employee's head. The men ordered the woman to a back room where she was tied up and pepper sprayed, according to a Broward Sheriff's Office arrest report.

The group then looted a safe containing cell phones and accessories before fleeing the store.

The entire incident was captured by surveillance video.

An arrest report does not indicate what led investigators to Johnson's arrest.
