LG Electronics unveils curved OLED TV at 2013 CES
SEOUL, Jan 09, 2013 (Xinhua via COMTEX) --
South Korea's consumer electronics
giant LG Electronics said Wednesday that it unveiled the industry'
s first organic light-emitting diode (OLED) TV with curved screen
at the 2013 International CES, the world's largest consumer
technology trade show held in Las Vegas, the U.S. state of Nevada.
The new model named EA9800, which features the industry's very
fist curved screen with full CINEMA 3D support, was introduced at
the trade show in Las Vegas, according to an e-mailed statement.
The 55-inch OLED TV with curved display has an equidistant
screen surface from the viewer's eyes, removing the problem of
screen-edge visual distortion and detail loss. The screen features
a dramatic curved design and a vivid picture quality that is
practically indiscernible from colors found in nature, the company
said.
The model also offers an infinite contrast ratio, which
maintains optimal contrast levels regardless of ambient brightness
or viewing angle, LG said, noting that it boasts a significantly
reduced weight and depth as there is no need for a separate
backlight for OLEDs that generate their own light. "LG is the
first to launch the 55-inch OLED TV. The new curved model
complements our core OLED TV family with a unique design that
capitalizes on the thinness of the screen and the aesthetic beauty
of OLED TV," said Havis Kwon, chief executive of LG's home
entertainment division.
