Chinese police probe kickbacks by Foxconn managers

(Associated Press Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) TAIPEI, Taiwan -- Hon Hai Precision, a leading maker of iPhones and other high-tech gadgets, says it is working with Chinese police probing allegations that its employees solicited kickbacks from suppliers.

The statement late Wednesday came after a Taiwanese weekly reported the detention by Chinese police of a Hon Hai employee amid a probe initiated by the electronics maker.

Hon Hai, also known as Foxconn Technology Group, employs 1.2 million people in its some 20 factories spread out across China.

The company has previously come under scrutiny for labor policies that have allegedly led to a dozen workers committing suicide.

The latest allegation raised questions about the electronics giant's internal management problems amid its rapid expansion to keep up with growing demand for its components.
