Warning Jessops closures inevitable [Herald, The (Scotland)]

(Herald, The (Scotland) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) ADMINISTRATORS have warned that store closures are inevitable at high street camera shop chain Jessops putting 2000 jobs at risk.

PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) were appointed after the firm collapsed into administration. It has 11 stores in Scotland, with about 100 staff.

It marks the first high-profile retail collapse of 2013 and comes soon after consumer electricals chain Comet closed, leading to more than 6000 job losses.

Jessops, which has nearly 200 stores in the UK, suffered from online competition and the boom in camera phones, which has hit demand for digital cameras.

Administrator Rob Hunt said he was holding discussions with stakeholders to see if the business could be preserved.

He said continued trading in the stores was "critically dependent on these ongoing discussions," and said in the current climate, "it is inevitable that there will be store closures".

Consumer rights group Which said customers would have to write to PwC if they wanted to use vouchers or they had goods which needed to be returned.
