Death toll rises to 3 in methane gas explosion in NW Turkey

ANKARA, Jan 11, 2013 (Xinhua via COMTEX) -- Bodies of two more coal miners were recovered in Turkey's northwestern province of Zonguldak after a methane gas explosion took place Friday, the semi-official Anatolia news agency reported.


The number of casualties therefore rose to three in the methane gas explosion in a coal mine in Zonguldak, according to the report.

On Monday, eight miners were killed in a blast triggered by methane gas leakage in Kozlu town of Zonguldak.

A total of 61 people were killed and 91 others injured in 80 mine accidents in Turkey in 2012.
