Payment card market in Azerbaijan increases by 12 percent over year

The number of payment cards in Azerbaijan increased by 2.13 percent in November -- to 5.071 million units, and increased by 11.82 percent compared to the same period of last year, the statistical report of Central Bank of Azerbaijan (CBA) said.
Total turnover on payment cards through ATMs and POS-terminals in November amounted to 775 million manat, and the total number of operations -- 4.997 million units.
The number of debit card transactions totaled 4.586 million units worth 677 million manat.
Some 4.026 million transactions amounting to 618 million manat of the total number of debit card transactions were carried through the ATM, 385,000 transactions amounting to 42 million manat -- through POS-terminals.
Some 411,000 transactions totaling 97 million manat were carried out through credit cards in November 2012.
Some 139,000 operations worth 40 million manat were carried out through the ATM, 97,000 operations at 23 million manat -- through the POS terminals.
As of Dec. 1, 2012, the country had 2,240 ATMs, including 1,229 ATMs in Baku, 991 -- in other cities and regions. The total number increased by 136 units, or 6.46 percent for the year.
On Dec. 1, 2012 the number of POS-terminals totaled 36,482 units, of which 33,333 account for Baku, and 3,149 for other cities and regions.
Their number increased by 23,704 units, or by 2.86 times since November 2011.
