BRIEF: Small Business Plan Competition offers winner $5,000 grant

The Community and Business Development Department of the City of Winston-Salem will hold a Small Business Plan Competition. The writer of the winning plan will be awarded $5,000 grant for start-up costs and up to $5,000 in a matching micro-loan.
The plans must be for a micro-business, five or fewer employees, and it must be located in the Neighborhood Revitalization Strategy Area. The area includes downtown and portions of the northern, southern and eastern quadrants of the city.
The business plans must create low- to moderate-income jobs or benefit low- to moderate-income residents. Staff members from the Business Development Division will be available to provide assistance during the competition.
An information session will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday in Room 530 of the Stuart Municipal Building, 100 E. First St. Executive summaries and business descriptions must be submitted by Feb. 15. All submissions will be reviewed and the top finalists can submit completed business plans by May 15. The finalists will be judged by the Small Business Loan Committee. The winning plan will be announced in July.
