Drive to police station leads to DWI charge

Jan 13, 2013 (The Buffalo News - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- A 50-year-old Clarence man drove drunk to State Police headquarters Saturday night to report that he was concerned that he could not get in touch with his 19-year-old daughter, police said today. The daughter, it turned out, was fine, police said. She was at her Grand Island home with a broken phone.

The man however, was charged with aggravated drunk driving.

When state police gave Ronald Baron a Breathalyzer test they found his Blood Alcohol level was .24 -- three times the legal limit to drink and drive, police said.

Baron, of Xavier Road, about a half mile from the Main Street State Police headquarters, drove to the police station at about 9:30 p.m. to report he had not been able to get in touch with his daughter since she left his home earlier that night to drive to her home on Grand Island, police said. Baron was concerned about her safety, police said.

At Baron's request, State Police sent a police car to the young woman's Grand Island home, and found she was safe but that her phone was not working, according to police. Police, meanwhile, had determined that Baron was drunk when he drove to police headquarters. He was charged with drunk driving, then released to a relative. He is to appear in Clarence Town Court at a later date to answer the drunk driving charge. email: sschulman@buffnews.com ___ (c)2013 The Buffalo News (Buffalo, N.Y.)
