A 59-year-old woman from LaCrosse had her purse snatched Saturday afternoon as she walked into a Southeast Side gas station store.
The victim was approaching a PDQ store at 1625 S. Stoughton Road at around 2:50 p.m. when a man who had been loitering nearby grabbed her purse from her arm, according to a news release from the Madison Police Department.
The woman and robber struggled briefly, during which the woman was dragged several feet before the robber gained control and hopped into a van that was waiting for him on Mendota Street, police said.
The van was described as green with gold accents, possibly with a stolen Wisconsin license plate of 957BUR. The robber was described as black, in his late teens or early 20s, 6 feet tall with a heavy build, wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt and gray sweatpants.
Police said the woman's purse was recovered.
