BRIEF: Reward offered in fire

Jan 15, 2013 (The Daily News - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- Crime Stoppers of Onslow County is offering a reward of up to $2,500 for information in a possible arson case.

Investigators are trying to determine the cause of a blaze that destroyed a home at 4166 Richlands Highway at around 8:30 a.m. Monday, said Onslow County Fire Marshal Brian Kelly.

He asked anyone who knows anything about the cause of the fire or may have witnessed it to contact him.

"No one was home at the time," he said, adding the fire started in one of the home's main living spaces.

He said the family was able to salvage some of their belongings, but the house is unlivable.

"If you see it from the road, it doesn't look that bad, but inside, it's totally destroyed," he said, adding that the family who lived there are staying with other family members.

Crews from Rhodestown, Richlands, Southwest, and Backswamp volunteer fire departments responded to the call.

Anyone with information about the fire is asked to call the fire marshal's office at (910)-347-4270 or Jacksonville/Onslow Crime Stoppers at 910-938-3273. Callers do not have to reveal their identities.
