Hutton acquires McPherson construction firm

Hutton Construction said Tuesday it had acquired King Enterprise Group, a McPherson-based firm that specializes in heavy industrial civil construction.
"It definitely helps bolster a direction we've been going," said Hutton president Ben Hutton. "That's the industrial construction marketplace and that's where King has grown up."
Hutton did not disclose financial terms of the acquisition of the company that was previously led by Kansas Secretary of Transportation Mike King. The company was founded 33 years ago.
King Enterprise employs about 60 people. The firm has experience in site work, general contracting and industrial concrete, and has had a focus on construction for the oil and gas industry.
"Control buildings, construction for refineries, critical environments," Hutton said.
He said his company has been moving toward an expansion into industrial construction and has done some of those projects on its own as well as partnered with King Enterprise on others. And Mike King once worked for Hutton as its vice president of business development.
"It just made sense to bring that capability into our family," Hutton said.
Hutton said King Enterprises will retain its name and remain in McPherson.
"They'll be kind of a subsidiary of Hutton," he said.
Hutton Construction, at 2229 S. West St., employs 120 people. It was founded in 1992 by Mark Hutton, Ben Hutton's father.
