BRIEF: Coal terminal scoping email reactivated

Those wanting to email comments on scoping for the environmental impact statement on the proposed Gateway Pacific Terminal can once again send messages to com ments@eisgatewaypacificwa.gov.
The email account was disabled for a few days after an outside party sent an unauthorized message appearing to come from the account, said Larry Altose, spokesman for the state Department of Ecology, one of the agencies working on the EIS.
The account was reactivated Tuesday and is ready to accept comments.
"Any comments sent to this email address during this time have been retrieved and included in the official record," Whatcom County officials wrote in a statement Tuesday. Whatcom County is another of the agencies working on the EIS. "We apologize for any confusion that this may have caused."
People also can still submit comments through the online form at www.eisgatewaypacificwa.gov/getinvolved/comment, which allows commenters to attach JPEG pictures or PDF files to go along with comments.
Technically, the end of the scoping period is Jan. 21, but because that is Martin Luther King Jr. Day, comments will be accepted until 5 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 22.
Mailed comments will be accepted that are postmarked by that time and date.
