International Conductor's Workshop culminates in free concert at Wesleyan College

Jan 18, 2013 (The Macon Telegraph - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- After spending four days honing their skills with Maestro Adrian Gnam, 13 conductors will each take a turn leading an orchestra Monday in a concert that's free and open to the public.

The concert is the culmination of the 10th annual International Conductors Workshop and Competition and will include works by Beethoven, Brahms, Tchaikowsky, Mozart, Stravinsky and others.

The orchestra, made up of professional musicians from the Middle Georgia area, has been formed by Gnam, conductor emeritus of the Macon Symphony Orchestra. Workshop faculty include Gregory Pritchard, music director of the Gwinnett Symphony Chamber Orchestra; Robert Gutter, music director of the Philharmonia in Greensboro, N.C.; and Nadine Whitney, chair of the music department at Wesleyan College.

"I am really excited about this group of conductors. They have already shown great potential as conductors from the DVDs they submitted with their applications and their accomplishments with orchestras around the world. This concert should be absolutely wonderful," said Gnam, who is also the conductor of the Georgia Southern University Symphony and a faculty member at Mercer University and Wesleyan College.
