McKoy tabbed to fill Cogdell seat

ELIZABETHTOWN -- The Bladen County Board of Education this week named Glenn McKoy to serve the remainder of the term for Michael Cogdell.
Cogdell vacated his seat on the board when he was elected to the Bladen County Board of Commissioners in November.
"There is two years remaining on that seat," said Bladen County School Public Relations Director Valerie Newton.
According to Newton, the board also elected Wilbur Smith to serve a second term as chairman.
In other business:
-- The board accepted revisions to the School Improvement Plans.
"We are not talking about facilities. These are instructional and curriculum improvements," said Newton.
-- The board approved several overnight field trip and fundraiser requests.
-- The board tabled any action on a lottery application for roofing projects. Newton said the board had already approved the use of lottery funds to pay for roofing needs in the county. The bids for the work to be performed will be opened on Feb. 7. Newton said the board will hold a mandatory pre-bid meeting on Jan. 24 at 9 a.m.
-- The board accepted the audit report performed by Smith and Wike, PLLC.
-- The board also received information during the citizens participation segment of the meeting from Marcella Newkirk about the Carolina Vipers program.
