BRIEF: Man found dead in home after SWAT team is called

Jan 19, 2013 (The Arizona Daily Star - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- A man killed himself during an hours-long SWAT situation on Tucson's northwest side.

The incident started around 11:30 p.m. Thursday when a woman called 911 to report that her ex-boyfriend was suicidal and was threatening to burn his house down and shoot himself, said Deputy Tom Peine a Pima County Sheriff's Department spokesman.

The woman was not at the home but was on the phone with the man, Peine said.

Deputies went to the home in the 5000 block of Nighthawk Way and saw there was a minor fire in the house, Peine said. The fire died out on its own.

The SWAT team was called to help negotiate with the man, but they were unable to establish contact with him.

Friday morning, SWAT officers sent a robot into the home and found the man dead.
