BRIEF: Police investigate 3 break-ins at Greensboro stores

GREENSBORO, Jan 19, 2013 (News & Record - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- Police are investigating three break-ins that occurred early this morning, in which the thieves stole cigarettes from two grocery stores and a pharmacy.

The first break in happened about 1:45 a.m., in which someone broke the glass door to a Walgreens at 3529 North Elm St. Police said two men broke into the store and took an unknown amount of cigarettes before fleeing. Incomplete descriptions were provided of the two men.

The other two break-ins occurred at area Food Lions. The first happened just after 3 a.m., at the Food Lion at 2316 East Market St. Like the Walgreens theft, the front glass door was broken and only cigarettes were taken. Unlike Walgreens, police said only one person entered the business. Police said the man had one white glove and one black glove, was carrying a backpack and had a hammer.

The second Food Lion was hit almost two hours later, about 4:45 a.m., at 1023 Alamance Church Road. Again, the front glass was broken and a person entered the store, taking cigarettes and leaving. The person's description matched that of the person who robbed the other Food Lion, according to police.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 373-1000.
