Chris joins board of blind trust [Bath Chronicle (England)]

(Bath Chronicle (England) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Keen Bath blind sportsman Chris Mairs has joined the board of sight loss charity the Thomas Pocklington Trust.

Mr Mairs is a senior scientist with international software provider Metaswitch Networks, and will be helping the trust with its extensive research programme on sight loss issues.

He said: "It's a great privilege to be joining the board of one of the UK's leading organisations in the sight loss sector. "I really hope my life experience and business skills will help the charity go from strength to strength." He has just completed a fundraising tandem cycle ride from Land's End to John O'Groats. One of his other extra-curricular enthusiasms is developing technology for disabled people and he has set up a charity to work on various ideas to facilitate access to technology. Founded in 1935, the trust is a registered charity that provides support services, including housing, to people with sight loss in the UK.

Its research programme is working to develop and apply knowledge of the prevention, alleviation and cure of sight loss. For more information, log on to the website at www.pock-lington- trust.org.uk.
