Mozilla announces Firefox phones [Cihan News Agency (Turkey)]
(Cihan News Agency (Turkey) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) JOHANNESBURG (CIHAN)- Mozilla the company behind the popular web browser Firefox has announced its first smartphones built on its mobile operating system Firefox OS.
Firefox OS is built entirely using open web standards the company says.
The company has announced the release of two developer preview models of smartphones running Firefox OS.
The preview devices will reach developer hands by February and consumers later this year.
Mozilla partnered with Spanish based Geeksphone and Telefonica to develop the handsets.
The low end model named Keon will feature a Qualcomm S1 1GHz processor, 3.5 inch HVGA display, 3MP camera and a MicroSD card slot while the higher end Peak will own Qualcomm S4 1.2GHz processor alongside a 4.3 inch qHD display, 8MP rear camera, 2MP front camera and a Micro SD card slot.
Both phones will have 4GB ROMs and 512MB RAMs.
