BRIEF: Yuma parents invited to online security meeting
Jan 24, 2013 (The Sun - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) --
Parents interested in learning more about the digital world that their students are living in are invited to attend a presentation about online safety on Monday.
Yuma police officer Tomas Salviejo, the school resource officer for Woodard Junior High, will be presenting information about what dangers exist online as well as how parents can be proactive to protect their students.
School principal Andy Wait said that though the event was originally intended to reach all junior high parents within the Yuma Elementary School District, all parents from Yuma County can attend.
"We're hoping to have a big turnout so that people can learn about their students being safe online," he said. "All parents are welcome, we're doing it for the community."
While online safety is covered in classes, Wait noted that they also wanted to help inform parents of relevant topics to help reinforce the message.
"They never fail to surprise us with some of the stuff that we find out about later that happened online," he said.
The event will be held in the Woodard activity room at 6:30 p.m. For more information, contact woodardpto@gmail.com or 343-9102.
