Snyder makes appointment to Grand Valley State University board of trustees

Gov. Rick Snyder today announced the appointment of Kate Pew Wolters, of Grand Rapids, to the Grand Valley State University board of trustees.
The eight-person board is the governing body of the university.
"Kate has shown great dedication to Grand Valley State University and the Grand Rapids community," said Snyder. "I appreciate her willingness to serve in this role."
Wolters is a member of Steelcase Inc.'s board of directors and chair of the Steelcase Foundation, where she previously served as executive director. She also is president of the Kate and Richard Wolters Foundation. Wolters was a member of the Grand Valley State University board of trustees from 2005-2012. She served eight years as vice chair of the National Council on Disability, and continues to serve on the Michigan Protection and Advocacy Service and Grand Rapids Symphony boards of directors. Wolters holds a bachelor's degree in sociology from Aquinas College and a master's degree in social work from Michigan State University. She fills a vacancy created by the resignation of Sue Carnell.
Wolters will serve the remainder of an eight-year term that expires Dec. 31, 2016, and her appointment is subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.
