BRIEF: Smokey Phelan busted for spice, bath salts
PHELAN, Jan 26, 2013 (Daily Press - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) --
Authorities arrested a smoke shop owner and clerk on suspicion of selling synthetic narcotics to teenagers, according to a Friday press release from the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department.
Undercover detectives purchased spice (synthetic marijuana) from clerk Joseph Michael Glavach, 27, at the Smokey Phelan Smoke Shop in the 4100 block of Phelan Road.
Detectives from the sheriff's Narcotics Division Marijuana Eradication Team and deputies from the Phelan sheriff's station served search warrants at the shop and at the Victorville home of owner Mony Bassam Quran, 34, on Thursday.
The team seized more than 200 packages of spice and bath salts, which can be used as a form of narcotic drug with effect similar to methamphetamine, cocaine or marijuana.
A large amount of Vicodin painkillers and a stolen .38 special revolver were also collected as evidence, the release stated.
The store is located less than a half-mile from Serrano High School and directly across the street from Phelan Elementary School.
Both suspects were arrested and booked at the Victor Valley Jail.
