BRIEF: Davis High beefs up security
Jan 26, 2013 (The Modesto Bee - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) --
Parents reported seeing extra staff patrols and police presence Friday at Davis High School, just days after tension erupted at Elliott Alternative Education Center.
Modesto City Schools' public information office released a statement: "In response to community concerns, we increased security." No details were given about what concerns were raised.
Davis Principal Lynn Lysco said there were no problems, but she confirmed that Friday's Homecoming Week dance was canceled. She said a basketball game would go on as planned.
The incident at Elliott happened Tuesday, and a video was briefly posted on YouTube. In the video, a crowd of male students starts to leave the school, but police arrive and a fistfight breaks out as students move back into the campus.
There is no indication of what provoked the event. Modesto police said no one was arrested or injured.
